Ruby – The Gemstone of Passion and Vitality
Discover our curated selection of natural rubies, each hand-selected for its exceptional colour, clarity, and character. Prized for millennia as the king of gemstones, ruby's intense red hue evokes passion, energy, and timeless elegance — making it one of the most coveted stones in the world.
What Is a Ruby?
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum (aluminium oxide), with its signature colour derived from trace amounts of chromium. The finest rubies display a vivid, saturated red — often described as "pigeon's blood" — with strong fluorescence that gives the stone an almost luminous glow. As a member of the corundum family, ruby shares its mineral species with sapphire, differing only in colour.
Origins and Rarity
The world's most celebrated rubies originate from Myanmar (Burma), renowned for producing stones of unparalleled colour and fluorescence. Other significant sources include Mozambique, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Madagascar. Each origin imparts its own distinct character — from the deep, velvety reds of Burmese rubies to the bright, slightly pinkish tones of Sri Lankan stones. Truly fine, unheated rubies are exceptionally rare and command significant premiums in the collector market.
Quality and Value
Ruby quality is assessed across colour (hue, saturation, and tone), clarity, cut, and carat weight. Colour is the dominant factor — the most valuable rubies display a pure, vivid red with minimal secondary hues. Natural, unheated rubies with no clarity enhancements are the most prized. Each stone in our collection is carefully evaluated and described with full transparency on treatment status and origin.
